Breve revisão bibliográfica sobre os efeitos do licopeno em neoplasias prostáticas

Abstract

In this article, the activities of lycopene were addressed, looking for its functional properties and whether it is possible to use it as a way of preventing prostate cancer. For this, a bibliographic review was carried out, consulting Pubmed's database in the last ten years, in order to find out how lycopene, present in carotenoids such as tomatoes, watermelon, guava, among other foods, could be used for the cancer prevention mentioned above and whether there are scientific data to support this theory. The results show conflicting information, the vast majority of the data reviewed, does not present enough evidence to support the use of lycopene in the prevention of prostate cancer, however, in isolated cases, there was a decrease in cancerous markers after the increase in lycopene consumption.
