Abstract

The treatment of cancer remains a significant challenge for modern medicine, and complementary therapies are increasingly being explored as additional options to enhance the outcomes of conventional treatments. Cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are two components found in the Cannabis sativa plant. The combined use of these components offers greater benefits to patients undergoing treatment, as CBD enhances the effects of THC and reduces its psychotropic activity. The benefits of CBD and THC extend beyond mere symptom relief; they have anti-proliferative properties, meaning they can inhibit the unchecked growth of cancer cells. They are also anti-angiogenic, reducing the formation of new blood vessels that feed tumors. Furthermore, these compounds are pro-apoptotic, selectively inducing programmed death in cancer cells. Additionally, they have the ability to modulate the body's immune system, making it more effective in recognizing and combatting cancer cells. Thus, CBD and THC offer a new perspective in the fight against cancer, not just alleviating symptoms but also directly targeting cancer cells and enhancing the immune system's response. As research continues to advance in this area, it is essential to explore these complementary therapies to improve patients quality of life and increase their chances of recovery.
