Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the world, so the financial resources invested in the treatment are very expensive for both the government and the families that deal with the disease. Thus, studies are using medicinal plants to promote and prevent this pathology, as they have chemical constituents with hypoglycemic and antioxidant activity attributed to various mechanisms of action. The present project evaluated the effect of Hydroethanolic Extract of the aroeira bark (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi) on the biochemical parameters of type 1 diabetic Wistar rats, induced by Alloxane (130 mg / kg), for a period of 4 weeks by the Gavagem method, after treatment, they were sacrificed. After these weeks of treatment, the results obtained through a statistical analysis using the Scott-Knott and / or Turkey test revealed that the extract of the bark of the aroeira showed a marked decrease in the values of preprandial blood glucose. The lipid profile indicated a notable improvement, a protective function in the liver function enzymes was also demonstrated and, finally, a satisfactory result in the renal function marker, in all these cases the diabetic group treated with the peel was compared to the untreated diabetic. It is concluded that Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi has a normoglycemic effect, and it can also report a hepatic protective and renal effect, with further research and studies this plant can be considered as a new therapeutic alternative or complementary treatment to DM.
