Increased photoprotective and antioxidant activity of cosmetics containing plant extracts from the caatinga
Main Article Content
Abstract
The skin is the largest organ that man has, its function is to protect our body. Sun rays on skin contact aid in the synthesis of vitamin D, but prolonged exposure causes damage to the skin. For this, photoprotective and antioxidant activity analyzes of the extracts of Momordica charantia L. and Boerhavia diffusa plants were performed; It was the evaluation of the antioxidant activity of the extracts using the DPPH free radical scavenging method, which showed that B. diffusa L. showed antioxidant activity, while M. charantia L. showed much lower activity; The activity the photoprotective activity was evaluated by the Masur method, which was performed the photoprotection determination by in vitro spectrophotometry, where it was determined the SPF of the increment of the extracts. We concluded that the extracts under study showed satisfactory results for sun protection, whereas for antioxidant activity only B. diffusa L. showed good results.
