Prevention and Treatment of Probiotic and Curcumin Breast Cancer Cachexia

Abstract
The objective of this article is to perform a systemic review on the treatment and prevention of cachexia in breast cancer (CM), with the use of probiotics and curcumin, the process in which protein degradation occurs, excessive lipolysis and chronic inflammation through stimuli of HIF-1/IL-6/TGF-β/TNF/NF-kB, triggering angiogenesis, invasion and tumor metastasis, leading to a worse prognosis of breast cancer. To achieve the objective, a review was performed on the of probiotics and curcumin. Probiotics inhibit STAT/NF-kB/COX-2 pathways and stimulate PPARγ, inhibiting chronic inflammation and excessive lipolysis. Curcumin ir effcient in the captation of oxygen-reactive species (ERO) and inhibition oh hypoxia-inducible fator 1 (HIF-1), consequently inhibiting the total oxidative stress of the organism, improving the radiotherapy sensitivity of neoplastic cells and causing a decrease in tumor metabolism. According to the articles studied, probiotics and curcumin are two efficient strategies in the prevention and treatment of cachexia in CM, improving the prognosis of the disease. The studies analyzed describe that, both probiotics and curcumin are safe for administration to cancer patients during radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
