Focus and Scope

The Brazilian Journal of Natural Sciences (Braz. J. Nat. Sci.) mission is to publish relevant scientific articles in the broadest sense of different aspects of natural sciences and health sciences.  It is aimed at professionals, teachers and students who work in this field of study. It has a quarterly periodicity with articles evaluated by editorial board members and ad hoc evaluators. The Braz. J. Nat. Sci publishes unpublished texts, in the form of articles that address scientific research, which are the responsibility of its authors and do not necessarily express the editorial board's point of view. As a scientific journal, the Braz. J. Nat. Sci in its preliminary assessment will consider: 1. Whether the text follows the style standards and bibliographic standards of a scientific paper; 2. If the article makes clear its methodology, based on bibliographical references; 3. If the authors, in order to guarantee the state of the art, cite in their theoretical reference a minimum but sufficient number of recent references (if up to 10 years) extracted from national and international scientific journals; 4. Whether the references comply with the Vancouver citation system.

Peer review process

The Braz. J. Nat. Sci, in adopting the process of prior evaluation of the articles, aims to improve these through collaboration with the authors. The Braz. J. Nat. Sci only accepts an article for consideration if it is unpublished and is not being submitted to another journal. The evaluation process consists of two steps: First: a preliminary evaluation by the editorial board, which examines the adequacy of the work to the journal editorial line and a basic scientific quality according to the scope: Second: the evaluation by two reviewers for a final decision on their acceptance or not. Evaluators or reviewers are encouraged to make constructive suggestions on form and content in a timely manner so that they can be published in the shortest time possible. After the approval of the reviewers, the article goes through a review of grammar, vocabulary, cohesion, clarity and fluency of reading. The approved articles are taken to the meeting with the Editorial Committee for the preparation of the journal. The author will be informed about the progress of the process via e-mail.

Scientific Editorial Board

The Scientific Editorial Board or Editorial Board is formed by professors from different teaching and research institutions in Brazil and abroad, with academic recognition. Some of its members work in the various areas of the Braz. J. Nat. Sci, but in a non-collective way, that is, without regular meetings (face-to-face or virtual) to deal with issues. Following the model common to national scientific journals, there is no formal involvement of members of the Editorial Board with the Braz. J. Nat. Sci and with the Institute of Osmology and Essential Oils in the responsibility for the publication of the journal. The participation of each member in the magazine is given individually, for me through an articulation between the Editor and the Editorial Committee. Scientifically, the members of the Board act as advisors to the Editor and the Editorial Committee, disseminating the journal, suggesting improvements in editorial policy and strategies for acting in the academic and professional world. Demonstrators are expected to express their views on the consistency of editorial policy and publications, their quality, and also on ethical issues relevant to editorial management and the dissemination of articles. Each member also assumes the role of "ombudsman" of the scientific community active in the area, guaranteeing the academic credibility and the expected position of a scientific journal. As the Editorial Board is distant from the process of mediation of articles (not having access to the metadata of the articles being evaluated), it does not supervise or interfere in the editorial process, thus submitting articles to the Braz. J. Nat. Sci and partici
